| Sogeti USA Launches framework to cut costs for Oil and Gas projects |
| Microsoft-based solution provides visibility, accountability and profitability for enterprise project management |
| |
| HOUSTON – Feb. 18, 2009 – Today, at the Microsoft Global Energy Forum 2009, Sogeti USA announces the availability of Project Collaboration and Integration (PCI), a project management framework service offering specifically designed for oil and gas project teams. This solution framework is based on Microsoft business intelligence technology and enables financial visibility, cross-organization accountability and the opportunity for operators to remain profitable within project constraints. |
| |
| “Understanding how investments in large drilling and completions projects are paying dividends is often difficult to view across an enterprise,” said Rene Moreda, practice director energy, chemicals and utilities working at IT consultancy Sogeti, a part of the Capgemini Group. “PCI allows standardization methods for project teams to store and access financial information empowering them to track tasks and resources against objectives. Project stakeholders and decision makers can quickly view what parts of the organization are performing within set tolerance levels without having to assemble data from countless spreadsheets.” |
| |
Financial Visibility and Reporting
PCI allows users to view project financials through various cross sections of their organization, providing visibility and accountability for the health of projects. Financial information can also be aggregated and customized based upon the business needs across an organization’s functional or geographic segments. Visual dashboards display financial data and key performance indicators (KPIs) allowing project managers to create business intelligence reports and charts. This information can then be tracked by individual project sites within PCI. |
| |
Cross-Organization Accountability
Organizational needs are similar across all projects. For example, a drilling project in the Middle East would be served by the same tools that a civil works project uses to build a pad site in Russia. By standardizing formats and procedures, your organization can ensure that project personnel can easily transition between projects. |
| |
Integration with Data Management Systems
PCI also aligns with robust, master data management (MDM) initiatives, to create an environment of project management “excellence” and organizational maturity. MDM provides processes for collecting, consolidating, quality-assuring and distributing data throughout an organization. The solution is built upon Microsoft SQL Server 2008, which allows for customization of data storage to suit project needs. It also enables integration with external data sources using SQL Server Integration Services. |
| |
Optimizing Collaboration Within Project Teams
Through the use of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 as a web portal solution, users have the ability to search for project collateral across all enterprise efforts, and teams are able to communicate and store documents in one common area. Team members can access data, documents, and workflows in this central location to enforce business rules. Additionally, the organization's structure can be abstracted into tree structures for easy navigation between the portal sites. The web portal can be designed to leverage and integrate with your existing project management information system (PMIS) to manage tasks and resources as well as track project costs. Security can be customized to manage access to sensitive areas or documents. |
| |
| “Capital project costs continue to be challenging in the oil and gas industry, given the price volatility. Business intelligence tools like Sogeti's PCI solution enabled by Microsoft technology, further project managers' ability to visualize the bigger picture of ongoing projects and help balance their investment of resources, time and money," said Craig Hodges, U.S. energy and chemicals industry solutions director at Microsoft. "The integration of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server, Microsoft SQL Server coupled with Microsoft Office Project Portfolio Server provides the intelligent platform necessary for business-critical applications, data management, and collaborative functionality amongst asset teams." |
| |
| Other key features of PCI include: |
|
- Targeted searching of critical information from the project knowledgebase
|
|
- Resource management and allocation
|
|
- Best practices for scalability
|
|
- Customized roll-up reporting
