Company Overview

The client is a leading international bank with over 4,500 branches in more than 50 countries with a staff of over 100,000 employees worldwide.

Business Challenge

The client was implementing a first release of SAP. To be successful, the company needed to improve the quality and efficiency of its testing. Existing problems included:

  • Time to market for new business products was too long
  • Project overruns due to defects found just before Go Live
  • Unsatisfied users due to defective software

Solution

Sogeti was selected to manage all test activities with a dedicated test team for the initial implementation of SAP ( FI, CO, AM, MM-Purchasing) for the finance departments. Mercury Interactive Test Director was utilized as the test tool.

After the initial implementation the client decided to develop a global template for the use of SAP within the financial departments and business processes. This template was targeted to roll out to 15 countries.

Today, Sogeti supports testing in the projects that implement modules of SAP. The test activities mostly concern the method of testing SAP: building templates for plans, scripts, and the use of test tools. Sogeti is also supporting the creation of a global regression test set that is automated to be able to execute the regression test for the global maintenance and new releases. This regression test set includes R/3 ( FI, CO, MM-Purchasing, and HR), BW and Netweaver.

Results

Through Sogeti managing the SAP test team, the client has achieved the following results:

  • Defects in production reduced by 50%
  • Automated execution of regression test reduced from 2 weeks to 1 day
  • Cost of testing decreased by 30% through reusable testware
  • Project lead time reduced by 20% through structured testing approach
  • Overall project costs reduced by 25% through the structured methodology
